This Ulta is the messiest, most disorganized and trashy store I've been to. People have drawn all over the inside of the store expletives over the ads. Half of the things are opened and nothing is in place. Employees looked and acted like they didn't want to be there. Recommend any other Ulta by a long shot.

This Ulta is a disaster. There are no testers, shelves are not stocked, and today I picked up an online order where whoever packed my order thought that giving me a USED lipstick (seal was broken and everything) was a good idea. Very disappointed. It is always a mess when I go in there so I don’t know why I am surprised. Never run into this issue at Sephora.

The worst Ulta I have ever had the misfortune to enter. I love Ulta as a rule — they were good to their employees during the panini, the testers are plentiful, the employees are nice and tend not to be overbearing, and I love trying on fragrances, since they’re always different ON you than they are in the bottle or on paper or even on someone else. Not this Ulta. It was a mess, in more ways than one. Half the testers weren’t even out, and some that were, were unusable. All the perfume testers were absent, which feels like an ideal way to lose out on big sales, given the prices of perfumes. Items were scattered about in the wrong places — as a former retail worker myself, I ended up putting a fair few back correctly because I just couldn’t stand the chaos. The filth was another problem. So many things were dirty — the basket I used to carry the few things I did purchase, the display areas, non-tester items, etc. Given that there were at least a few testers out, and given the products Ulta sells, I feel like this is a health hazard. I don’t know if they were understaffed — there was one employee at the register, and the second another came by, she went on break. Understaffing sucks, but the attitude — or, rather, apathy — from the employee who checked me out was stunning. I don’t need a conversation or much from workers. Retail is grueling; I get it. It would take a LOT for me to be rude to any employee, but especially an employee of a big box store. But as I checked out, this employee was actively and openly texting. I felt dismissed — like, “finish up, get out, I don’t care about you or your money.” She didn’t even say “bye.” The only two things I did purchase, though I had a long list of items I wanted/needed, I bought only because they had clearly NOT previously been opened. The filth, disorganization, apathy, and absence of testers meant that this particular branch lost out on a pretty big sale. This is the closest Ulta to my house, and I’m often at other stores in the area. Other Ulta locations are at least double the distance from my home, but I won’t be back here. It’s worth the miles on my car and the gas used to run it to not have to return ever again.

Edi- Jan 2025: I went into the store last night for a blow-out with Alda (after cutting my hair with her a few months ago). I was wanting to get my hair done for headshots I was getting done and everything from start to finish was amazing- again. I had Grace wash my hair and she has to be the KINDEST person I've ever met. After washing my hair, she asked if I felt my hair was clean and assured me that she could redo the wash if need be, but she really did a great job. Alda did her thing again with my blow-out. My hair doesn't hold curls well (even though it's wavy), and she put in enough product in my hair that it lasted me overnight into the next day without looking greasy or dirty and still keeping it's style. Sept 2024: I've been coming to Ulta for a while but recently tried their salon services. After struggling to find a stylist I loved in Boston, I booked an appointment and am so glad. The online scheduling was super easy, but the real gem is Alda. She is a QUEEN with scissors! I was nervous about chopping off so much of my hair (about 8ish inches), but she exceeded all my expectations. Alda is professional, kind, and incredibly helpful. She even took the time to share product recommendations and styling tips in a way that felt genuine and informative, not pushy. As long as I live in Boston, I'll be coming to see Alda for all my hair needs.
