The Golden Crown Hotel

Went here for a day while on visit to Sri Lanka. The hotel is nestled between a valley in Kandy and it’s a cosy, warm and comfortable place. Rooms are pretty large, decent view. Staff is warm, helpful and courteous. What stands out is the food at their restaurant. The spread for dinner and breakfast is really huge and is worth a meal. While vegetarian options looks less but if you eat everything it’s a delight to have multiple cuisines here. Dinner and breakfast both were memorable with warm and helpful staff. Dinner also had nice live music and singer was pretty good. Infinity pool is super too, took a dip in morning and was refreshing.

The room itself is very nice. However, the bathroom is in horrible shape. Blocked sink to moving bathroom seat. Breakfast was good, but for a 5 star buffet You have to pay for an orange juice. 3-star hotel at best.

A Stunning Stay at the Golden Crown Hotel in Kandy I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Golden Crown Hotel in Kandy, and it was nothing short of phenomenal. From the moment I arrived, the professionalism and warmth of the staff set the tone for an incredible experience. The balcony room I stayed in was absolutely stunning, offering breathtaking views and a serene escape from the bustling city below. It was the perfect spot to unwind and soak in the beauty of Kandy. One of the standout highlights of my stay was the breakfast—an exceptional culinary experience! A special shout-out to the talented chef at the egg hopper station, whose skill and attention to detail made every bite unforgettable. It’s clear this hotel takes great pride in their dining experience. Ravi at the restaurant was an absolute star throughout my stay. He made a family dinner with my extended relatives from Kandy an incredibly special and seamless affair. Ravi’s charm, attentiveness, and delightful conversations added so much to the overall experience. I also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Jayantha and Dananjaya for their unwavering professionalism, kindness, and friendliness. Their dedication to ensuring my comfort did not go unnoticed, and they truly made my stay feel like a home away from home. The rooftop pool area deserves a mention as well—it’s nothing short of epic! A perfect space to relax and take in the panoramic views of the city. Additionally, the hotel is in the process of expanding, with a new wing and a state-of-the-art fitness area underway, which makes me even more excited for my next visit. Golden Crown Hotel exceeded all my expectations. I will absolutely be back, and I can’t wait to see the finished expansion during my next stay. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kandy!

This hotel offers a decent location, making it convenient for travelers who want to explore the surrounding area. However, the overall experience falls short in several key areas, particularly with regard to dining and service quality. While the rooms are not a major issue, they do not stand out as a highlight either, being serviceable but not exceptional. Unfortunately, the restaurant experience is where the hotel loses significant points. The service is notably slow, and the food quality leaves much to be desired. In fact, the dining experience could be described as quite disappointing, with the lack of a lunch buffet being a particular letdown for guests who might be expecting a more comprehensive dining option. Given the growing trend in the hospitality industry to offer buffet-style meals, especially at lunch, the absence of such an offering makes the experience feel incomplete. Additionally, the food itself does not impress. Whether it's the selection, preparation, or overall taste, the meals served do not meet the standard one might expect from a hotel in this category. Given that dining is such an integral part of a hotel stay for many travelers, this aspect certainly detracts from the overall experience. In conclusion, while the hotel’s location is a plus, and the rooms are adequate, the subpar restaurant service and the lack of appealing food options make it difficult to recommend this place wholeheartedly. With improvements in these areas, the hotel could better meet guest expectations, but as it stands, it leaves a lot to be desired.

We were there in Sep 2024. Rooms are large, nice and clean and well appointed. The staff are amazing. We ate at the hotel and there was a wide variety with the wait staff being very helpful! Overall a great hotel that I would stay at again and highly recommend it if you are in Kandy.
