Shouldice hospital customer reviews

I had my first down in 2008 and went back for the second side. The technique works well, and you will get back to work faster. Day 1- Armenian and orientation and meeting your doctor. Medical team will get all medical info and share the plan with you. They offer lunch and dinner and snacks at night Mid night, no food and no drinks Day 2: operation day, you will be shaved and will take shower and wait in your room until it’s your turn Post surgery, you will be tested and looked at to see if you are ready to drink and move Advise drink as much as you can water WARNING: you might feel well and wanna run. DO NOT, listen to the nurses. Take it slowly as meds is still there. I saw few people including myself pushing it hard and we were stupid Day 2: start the excise time, again take it easy and lots of walking. Day 3-4 … just repeat until you are 100% for Good luck fellows

I had my surgery back on May 27 of 2024.I had an umbilical hernia repair.I had the surgery Monday afternoon & was discharged as planned on the Thursday.I could have left on the Wednesday but I came from out of town & my date for discharge was Thursday.Too be honest & this is just my experience I did not have a lot of pain after surgery.I was 55 & physically fit so hopefully this helped. My advice is take the meds every 4 hours & use ice packs. Also get up & walk as much as possible.I talked with a female patient there that was very physically fit & she didn’t want to use the meds & she had a very hard time. Also drink plenty of water after the surgery.Another patient did pass out at breakfast & dehydration was the cause from what I remember after talking with him.I was there in late May & the weather was beautiful except the day of my surgery so I did not care. The grounds are beautiful so get out & walk. The food was extremely good & plenty of it.The group I was in were great guys with a couple of girls & we all watched the Stanley Cup playoffs for the most part & everyone was supportive. On the Tuesday we had a barbecue & there was a wing night & also Samoses.I personally had a very positive experience & if I need to return I would tomorrow.Special thanks to my surgeon & team Dr.G Bodie.I left on the Thursday & went back to the gym on the Monday. Now I moved slowly & didn’t lift anything over 10 pounds but walked a lot.At 8 weeks I pretty much forgot I had surgery & was nearly 100%Its been nearly a year & I feel great so I highly recommend if you can get there to do so.

Exceptional hospital, from the time I had my consult to surgery/4 day stay and follow up. Amazing food/ three course meals and room sharing concept. Love the idea that everyone at the hospital is going through the same and has support/experience to share. Also, less chances of contracting deadly diseases which are more common at regular hospitals. My surgeon was Dr Ross, a man of few words but a wealth of experience and knowledge. His confidence in his work inspires me and comforted me to be in the right hands. The rooms and patient lounge could be better/ upgraded with more modern decor to match the other parts of the hospital. Also did not like the idea of having one bathroom available for patients per floor but it was fairly clean. A week after my surgery, I noticed some blood trickle through my incision site and immediately sent an email with a photo to the general hospital mailbox. I was surprised to hear back from the hospital within 48hours. They had shown my picture to Dr Ross who advised what to do in the mean time and requested I come in to see him the following week. Dr Schneider saw me for my follow up and answered all my questions with patience and zero hesitation, assured me all was ok and healing beautifully, a very humble man. Overall a job well done by all staff (including the nurses/anesthesiologist in the OR- so comforting) and Dr Ross especially, with two weeks post surgery, I struggle to try to find my incision scar as the surgery was done so beautifully. Was off pain meds within 5 days of surgery and an abdominal binder helps ease everything like a charm! Highly recommend this place!

Good morning, So now the surgery and stay at shouldice is in the rear view mirror and I am home again. I want to say thanks for the excellent experience. A few stand out thoughts: 1. The facility and grounds are beautiful and well maintained. I went outside for a walk every day I was there except surgery day. It’s true the buildings are older but that adds to character! 2. I didn’t think of this till I came home - but the weight loss requirement and diet, the encouragement to help yourself from staff, the layout of facility and general attitude expressed by staff and other patients gives patients strong motivation to take control of their own healing and wellbeing! This all done in a cheerful, enjoyable , social atmosphere! 3. Meals served at dining tables where there was good conversation, excellent food and service!( I heard people saying the food was better that at home, I’ve got it very good at home but the food at shouldice certainly wasn’t lacking…😊) Even the fact that the dining required 2 flights of stairs for me was positive! 4. Staff explained what was needed but didn’t overburden me with details. They were always willing to answer questions and were cheerful! The surgery itself including the form of sedation was excellent for me. In the research I did, I ended up having a sense of confidence that your surgeons, who continually do this type of surgery, would be the most trustworthy for best results and lowest complications! 5. The push and instructions on how to exercise were well done! 6. The price seems to me very reasonable and accounting looks after submission of paperwork to home province for partial reimbursement. 7. Perhaps this is coincidence but I enjoyed my roommates…. There’s probably more but I’ll suffice it to say that I’ll be telling people I know that need hernia surgery, “don’t even consider other options, Shouldice is the place to go it you can!” Best regards, Michael Hofer photos below represent, 1. Outside view of hospital entrance area. 2. One of the many squirrels enjoying the grounds. 3. After surgery recovery in my room. 4. The view out my window.

At Shouldice Hospital you truly understand what a luxury medical treatment is, the staff, the procedure, and the stay were all fantastic, truly a 5 star experience. The rooms and common areas were very clean and meals were good. I would definitely recommend Shouldice Hospital 100%
