Ryan mansion customer reviews

This was so much better than staying at a hotel. Very personable and friendly management that seemed to do everything from cooking to waiting on guests and receiving guests (like us) at all hours after midnight. This is a legitimate British colonial, dark wood and spacious mansion. Wonder architecture and very well kept. We will certainly stay here again - my only request is more parking please 😇

Ryan Mansion is a majestic house with an old English charm. It is the opposite of a corporate hotel with cubes for rooms and impersonal service. Ryan Mansion is a unique, grand, swanky wood-clad venue and majestic place which has retained its grandeur in the huge fireplaces, large spacious hallways and elegantly decorated rooms. The bathroom was clean and big. The bed was extremely comfortable. The walks to the harbour, galleries, and surrounding parks are right there; no need to drive anywhere. The host, Mary, or “MM” for “Brilliant Mary,” is welcoming, hard-working, and has the most adorable accent. She cooks the most unique local breakfasts, which we enjoyed in the quiet splendour of the Breakfast Room. Robert, the proprietor, is polite, charming and friendly. His attention to detail and his décor of the house are astounding. Highly recommended!

Outstanding! Newfoundland hospitality at its finest! The House, as they call it is absolutely magnificent, rooms are spacious with gorgeous bathroom, super comfy bed and nespresso coffee maker. Everything was absolutely spotless. The House oozes of history and is an experience in its own right. It’s at a great location to walk to downtown, the Harbor or to the Rooms. But what stood out the most, was the love and kindness that Robert and Mary showed us. We were welcomed like family and felt so at home there. Mary cooks beautiful and delicious breakfasts. This is a special place and recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone.

Rooms are very stuffy, even moldy. They try to off set this with an extremely strong air freshener. The staff was cold. The morning breakfast was mediocre at best. While admittedly the first half was good (orange juice with a bowl of fruit). The second half was disappointing, 6 heavily salted baked potatoes, and a bagel with simply butter. Location is quite good, a little outside St. John’s, unfortunately, parking is quite difficult. Overall, the price was much too high for the experience, at this price you could easily get yourself a nice suite at the four seasons. Undoubtedly the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. You’ll truly feel ripped off. Just a note, St. John’s is really having a very difficult accommodation problem currently. Some “regular” hotels are fully booked from now until early December (currently writing late August). This allows for substandard experiences without major drawbacks and a very large increase in Airbnb or VRBO rentals. Hope this helps, I actively discourage going to this hotel, while it might’ve been of better quality in the past, current economic conditions have allowed for it to become substandard, hopefully to recover one day.

This is an absolute gem in a great city. Beautiful surroundings, extremely comfortable and the attention to detail is second to none. The proprietor Robert was very welcoming and Mary added some island charm to our stay and looked after us like we were family. Highly recommend.
