This unique venue host a variety of art events. Free parking many shows are pay as you wish. The art is world class and as with most art event dress varies from evening wear to cut-offs . Unlike most art or concerts they start on time. There is plentiful parking easy to find on Main. The ambience is brilliant interesting people friendly staff a court yard to have a beverage after all this with great art and music

Small museum, it feels like you get to know the artists, a nice space and good displays of artwork. Free to go and you can read or relax on seats. Nobody else was there on the Friday I went.

This place definitely was worth going to for my daughter and I. She loves art and is actually very good herself. So as a mom I'm supporting her in her journey until she really take her skills to new heights. We were able to bond and share our artistic ideas and we had great conversation when discussing each piece. It was free to visit making it a very good idea to take your family. I do recommend this place very much if you're into art.

Small gallery but they do really cool work. Recently they held a display on comic artists from the 1970s after the exhibit travelled to Germany. During my last visit only one floor had works on display as the second floor was under construction. Regardless, cool center presenting unique collections.

I always enjoy going to this annual show at Lawndale. I believe it is always a showcase of artists within a 100 mile radius, so it likely focuses on emerging artists who are not in the mainstream. I think it is a wonderful idea. Like any art gallery, some you love, some you like, some you think are awful and some you don't get at all. But, for any artist to put himself or herself out there takes a lot of guts, so I applaud them all. The gallery itself is located a bit off the beaten path in the art district down the street from the MFAH, but it is easy to get to and there is lots of surface parking. On this visit, I had five artists that I took note of that I really liked. They are, in no particular order, Agnes Bourely (Musica Ficta), Jasmine Zelaya (Self-Portrait with Vibrations), Sara Fisher (STAIN Self-Portrait), Hedwige Jacobs (Connect) and Yu Ru Huang (Handwritings of 120+ Personal Signficances). I plan to research them more and see what other works they have done should they have websites. I share photos of their art work that was on display. I did not get the work of the artist on the second floor. I am open minded, but this art was not to my taste and a bit too bizarre for me. The gallery is not large, so you can view the works in 45-60 minutes, max. An interesting thing I learned on this visit is that LAC has established a Lending Library where members (for a membership fee) can borrow select works for a set period of time. While in the lending library, the works cannot be puchased, however, they are set to have a silent auction in 2019 where you can bid on works of art.

The Lawndale Art Center is definitely worth the money (it's free) and it's worth a stop. It's small and the art rotates frequently. Some of the art is mediocre, at best, but other pieces are surprising little gems. If you're in the musuem district, stick your head in and take your chances.

Glad it was free. The exhibits failed to grab our attention. On a plus note it appears the exhibits change out every couple of months. Wouldn't go out of my way to come again. Thanks anyway.

This was a nice little art gallery to visit with free admission and parking in their lot. We enjoyed the exhibitions on display and the outside area of the building. The staff was friendly and respected your personal space when seeing the art.
