Karl Strauss Brewing

I loved the fish and chips and the IPA beer combination. The Brussel sprouts was not bad but I had betters. Lots of parking spot around. The service was great and fast. The outdoor atmosphere is nice.

This is an excellent bar and restaurant that happens to be a hidden gem in the middle of an urban area. It it located in what seems to be in the middle of a business building area, but is surrounded by an oasis of trees and a beautiful pond. I believe this used to be a Japanese restaurant some years back, and the decor in the garden is very Japanese - complete with coy fish. The beer and bar selection is quite good, with excellent craft beers on tap. The food is typical bar fair, but one step elevated, with excellent taste and presentation. I really love the food here. It’s really a great place to meet friends, or just come hang out on a nice summer day. I’ll come back anytime!

I got there just as a massive group from a nearby Tech company came in. I sat at the bar for close to 10 minutes & no one saw me. Then I moved a little bit to my left & Riley (I might be wrong on the name) saw me & was very apologetic & led me through the menu. After that she was very attentive & nice. This is a lovely venue & the staff were great. I'm not a massive Karl Strauss beer fan but I'll come back here because of the great staff & good Happy Hour deals

I returned here after 8 years. Before, I came for their weekend brunches, but they no longer do it. So came here as a big party of 15 with a dinner reservation on a Saturday. We were seated right away at our table that was ready even though some of our party members were running a little late. Ordering was difficult. It is being left on each person or a family member to scan the QR code to start a tab and place orders; zero interaction with a server. Some of our party had questions about some of the menu items, but it took a while to get a server to ask those questions. One of the party members was impatient and just ordered a mac n cheese, which was what they thought was the right one, but ended up being a different. Drinks other than water took a while to get. The beer they had from their line and other partners were good. They do offer smaller 4oz tasters of the draft beer if you want to try different ones. The food was okay from what most of the party said. I got to try the seasonal Asada Fries, which was spicy, but not much flavor. I ordered the Grass-fed burger, which was okay, and not a top-five burger for me. I wouldn't order a burger if I came again. Closing out the tab was done through the QR/web, again cutting out any interaction with a server. One party member kept getting errors when they went to pay their check, so they ended up going up to the bar to close the tab. From what I remember, the place and atmosphere looks like it has not changed since being here last time. It's definitely not up to the good memories of the food and atmosphere. I would probably just come back for their beer at the bar, and maybe takeaway a growler.

Visited here 2x in a few days. Both times it was great. The staff and service was exceptional. Form the brewery I had a few pints of Red Trolley which is really nice. Great wings. The beer brined pork chop dish is exceptional; it’s a must have.

As it was just down from out hotel, we had popped in for lunch. The food was great and the service was attentive. We enjoyed it so much, on our last night in San Diego we went back for dinner! The food was again fabulous and the staff were even better than the prior visit.

Have been to Karl Strauss on several occasions and it uniformly very good. Nice selection of well prepared bar food (burgers, wings, fries, tacos, etc). Order and pay at the counter and seat yourself indoors or outside. Burgers are large and flavorful. Wings are boneless with a choicer of several tossings. The sweet chili glaze is particularly.

HUNGRY for lunch and found poke bowl w/ chicken and sushi nachos filled the bill. Both bartenders offered to let us try, even suggesting alternatives and walking around dining area w/ samples. DEfinitely encouraged enjoyment. Bill total $68 w/ tip

Food is pretty good. It may be a little pricey, but not too bad. We usually visit this place at least once while we are in town to have a drink and sometimes eat.
