Hygie hotel customer reviews

Let me save you the trouble: DO NOT stay at this hotel. We traveled to Montreal for a week-long vacation and were utterly horrified by what we encountered. From the moment we entered our room, it was clear this place was a complete disaster. The air was thick and musty, the sheets were stained with blood and mold, and there were clear signs of bed bugs. We both started feeling itchy within minutes and knew there was no way we could spend a single night here. We left after just 20 minutes, but the ordeal didn’t end there. Despite the horrifying conditions, the staff flat-out refused to refund the $350 we paid. We called multiple times, only to have them hang up as soon as they recognized who we were. They are unhelpful, rude, and condescending. At this point, they’re outright stealing money from guests. As for the employees? They’re a joke. The guy at the front desk couldn’t even bother to look up from his YouTube videos to acknowledge us. The so-called cleaner was sitting on a guest bed, scrolling through her phone like she was on break. And let’s not forget the group of people openly smoking weed in the kitchen and lobby area. How is this place even legally operating? It’s filthy, mismanaged, and completely unprofessional. Do yourself a favor and stay anywhere but here. This place is a disgrace.

Ok so this was my first time using a hostel/Pod room and I was looking forward to having a place to crash. But this is definitely a what you pay is what you get situation. My check-in wasn’t working when I arrived, no one was at the front desk so I had to call them and eventually I was let inside. The codes they give you for the main entrance are the same for the pod rooms but I’m assuming anyone can just let themselves inside as long as they have the code. There wasn’t any security on site and I felt a bit uncomfortable with the idea that just anyone can come and go. They have one bathroom and one shower to share, the shower has no hot water. People were in and out, slamming doors and being loud at all hours of the night even though their policies say lights out after 10pm. People definitely do not respect these rules so if you’re looking for a place to sleep this ain’t it. If you’re desperate for a place to spend the night out of the cold this is the place and I will probably still come back in the future if I absolutely have to but I rather spend the extra cash if I can to get a good nights rest. Also check out was confusing because no one was around? So I just walked out and hoped I wasn’t going to get any surprise charges. They also do not reply to texts or calls. Even though they advertise to “let them know” if we need anything. It’s just poorly managed. I do hope they change a few things because this place does have a lot of potential.

Stayed in a suite for 3 nights. Convenient location if you like Old Montreal, especially the Old Port. To my surprise, the rooms (both pods and suites) were located in a basement. It wasn’t a huge issue. But if I’d known this in advance, I would have probably booked another hotel with windows, only because I prefer to be able to see out. I was told housekeeping would be available 10am-6pm. On my second day, I didn’t need it yet. So I put on the “Do Not Disturb” sign on my door before 11am, and removed it at the end of the day. Undisturbed. Easy. The next day, I wanted housekeeping. Put on the “Please Make Up Room” sign when I got out before 12pm. Only to see an untouched room when I came back at 6:30pm. No idea what steps did I miss to fail requesting for housekeeping service :( The walls were definitely NOT soundproof. My suite was opposite the shared washroom. I could hear people taking showers there. Not to mention people talking and walking along the corridor. One night I could not sleep because one of the other guests was watching a movie with constant screams in high volume. The design of my suite was modern. The bed was also comfortable. Could provide more towels though. When everything else (e.g. toiletries, coffee capsules) were given in 2 sets, only 1 stained bath towel was given. No face towel nor hand towel. Overall the room could be maintained better. One of the paintings on the wall was poked through. Water was leaking from the shower hose, which might be the cause of low water pressure from the shower head. Missing towel bar. I knew there had been one because I could still see the drilled holes with a tiny piece of metal attached. The male staff I saw between 11am-6pm was the human form of ennui. Could be more friendly, polite and helpful. The other male staff I saw between 8:30pm-11am was a lot more helpful comparatively.

Hotel Hygie is an okay place to stay if you're on a tight budget. I had to change this review since one of the staff members bribed me to leave a positive review including his name in a positive light since he gets some sort of kick back for that. It is placed in a very nice part old montreal not far from some very nice restaurants and cafes. Other than the price and location thats all I can say for positives. The people who work at the hotel are somewhat friendly but the person working the front desk is on their phone 90% of the time when I saw them. They also seem to generally be incompetent not knowing which bed you're in and changing your bed/room everytime you pay for an extra night. They put me in the wrong bed the first night as well. The place smells musty, especially, in the hallways and its extremely dirty. The bathrooms only sometimes have toilet paper and you have to pay for a towel since they don't give one gratuit ($5). Some of the pod rooms give you access to lockers in the common area that have an electronic lock. The other ones have lockers in the pod rooms but you need your own lock and the locker has little space. I came to hotel with only 1 day booked and paid $12 usd. Each consecutive day I had to rebook since I didn't know how long I was staying for due to my circumstances. Each time I had to pay a different amount of money ranging from $6-$22 usd. I'm not sure why this is and I think it was because the staff is incompetent. I think they may not have even charged me for one of the nights I stayed there. If you want a 5 star experience go stay at the 4 seasons around here, otherwise of you're looking for an inexpensive place to stay this is fine for what you get. If you're okay with subpar service and unclean rooms go ahead and book here but don't say I didn't warn you. Honestly, this place is probably only marginally better than staying in a homeless shelter or on the streets.

Stayed at Hygie Hotel’s standard queen suite. Before booking, note that this is located in a basement, which was not indicated anywhere in the hotel’s website. The room had clean sheets upon arrival. We had to request for an extra towel as it was not prepared prior to our arrival. The heating in the room was abysmal. The service was okay. Overall, the low value for a night’s booking is well-reflected in the hotel’s service and amenities. The biggest pro to booking this hotel is its proximity to Downtown Montreal, but you can always book a different hotel in the area. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking to maximize their money’s worth and experience good service and stay in Montreal. Please book elsewhere if you can.
