I've heard of Elephants Delicatessen for years and have always wanted to try it. Finally, I did. When I walked in, I was blown away. It's so beautiful and unusual inside, I was excited. Maybe what I ordered was too mundane. Maybe they are best with some of their more exotic foods. I don't know, but I ordered a favorite of mine...a BLT...and was disappointed. It just wasn't tasty. It wasn't bad, but it was just not tasty. The bread was very hard. It should have been more lightly toasted. Even though it wasn't burnt or anything, with bread so hard, the toast should be really light. And not enough of anything was on the sandwich. I will try this place again though, because there are many choices, and as I said the place inside is wonderful. I was in a hurry but would like to explore the other choices sometime.

This is a great place to try if you are not sure what you’re in the mood for. There are many different options. The staff were amazing. As soon as I walked in, a staff member greeted me, explained the process of how the different counters work, and gave me a recommendation. I had the fried chicken sandwich and a chocolate chip cookie. There was plenty of space to dine in. The sandwich was amazing and full of flavor. I wasn’t a fan of the fries. The cookie was perfect. I will definitely be back.

I have to disagree with some of the comments here. I came randomly few times and everything I tried was just excellent. For example I tried most of their soups and I think they are the backbone of this whole establishment. So you shoukd startwith that. Another good fresh dish is the calamari and I could name some others. Tried the green chicken enchilada: did not liked it but the dish was fresh, just not on my taste. So watch out at how reviwers confuse their personal taste with how fresh and well done the food is. In other words Elephant is one of the 3 places with a strong presence in Portland area and they are fresh, reliable and have competitve prices. Strongly recomend them. P.S.: coffee in all their places was really bad and sour.

Ordered green enchiladas. Complete fail. Was more of a lasagna and the chicken was like a puree. It was the most disgusting dish I have ever tasted. Looked like a nice place but they need to get real cooks. Unless this is the new genetically made chicken, green salsa enchilada. Nope! Was dry too. I’m not sure how they’re not embarrassed to serve this crap.

Outside aside, this is the type of indoor food market/cafe that will turn heads with a very nice food menu and home accessories with a creative flair as you...

Careless in the kitchen. I ordered here specifically because they do a great job of marking items on their menu as gluten free and offer gluten free bread...

Atmosphere: Bright, spacious atmosphere with a little market attached. More of a fast-casual type setup Food: The elephant's cure soup is a standout....

What a great find for lunch. Very large menu, plenty of options for anyone. It's a bit chaotic, and they could have someone explaining where to order, etc. And we parked in their lot, which was a plus!

Lots of fresh and premade options. Employees were friendly. There was lots of seating. Only negative is you don't know the prices until it's time to pay. Pizza crust was a bit chewy, wedge salad did not have enough items on it and calamari was flavorful and crispy but very overpriced and a bit oily. Seems to stay busy.

A great place to stop either for breakfast/lunch dishes or a full deli counter with creative choices. Very friendly staff and reasonable prices.

A pleasantly bustling, busy place. Actually a market with food "stations" where you order food: pizza, grill, sandwiches and soups, pastries and cookies. Very casual. Delicious food, reasonable prices. Friendly folks.
