America First Credit Union

After 43 years of membership it is time to move on. I remember not too long ago when America First had really good reviews, but I see more and more comments about how it is no longer about the member and it is very evident in their service quality. It has been more difficult to work with this credit union on a personal basis and service is much slower and robotic. I believe that all comes down to leadership at the top. Ever since John Lund retired as CEO, the credit union has moved away from the credit union mission. A lot of money is spent on sponsorships (i.e. Las Vegas Golden Knights and Raiders, Utah Jazz, etc.) and the executives go hang out in suites and live like big corporate executives. In that type of culture I can see how the member would get lost. This is so far from the credit union purpose that they ought to be paying taxes. I have found another credit union that still operates like a real credit union where members do come first and I will be moving all my accounts. Thanks America First for mostly good years over the last 43.

I bought a truck the first week of July and used America First for the auto loan. I live in Idaho but they said that once they received the title from the dealer that they would send it to the DMV in Idaho so I could get the truck registered. I have called 5 times in the past three months to try and figure out where the title is and why it has taken so long. Each time someone is blaming the issue on some one else and promising it will sent to the DMV in 2-3 weeks and to check then. My truck is sitting in my garage because I cannot drive it because the temporary registration has expired. Called again today and they promised again that they would send it and that it should be there in 2-3 weeks... Three and a half months... This is the last time I will ever be using AFCU for an auto loan.

That's where the heavy heart I have to give this review. I really really enjoyed this credit union from the beginning. When I left Chase Bank to bank with America first credit Union. They were considered the number two bank in Utah behind mountain America. It was very nice in the beginning. There were very funny things in the beginning that I was not used to. I did not understand why it takes five to six days for pending charges to go through on your account. I had a car loan through America first credit Union. I had a checking a savings account and a credit card. All set up with amazing customer service. a few years have gone by and I have noticed a dramatic drop in customer service. I still have yet to figure out why it takes so long for charges to go through your account and why it takes so long for money to go back into your account. From what I can tell they use a method that does not put its customers first. I'm definitely shopping for a new bank or credit union. I have noticed in reviews and in on online polls that America first no longer is even in the top 10 credit unions or banks in Utah. Customers obviously have not been there priority. Definitely feels like the bottom line from a corporate standpoint is more important than keeping its customers and its revenue. Too bad for America first credit Union. They have had poor management and it is going to run this bank into the ground. I don't think I'll ever trust them to ever come back. Thank God for options. And hopefully there's more than enough banks out there willing to put their customers first instead of last.

Just closed a car loan and finishing up with a consolidation loan. We had issues with the car dealership we were working with to the point that we went a different direction at the last minute. Spencer Thompson in the Loan Department truly went above and beyond to make everything go as smoothly as possible. Very responsive and straightforward. This is a great branch with a very convenient location. Everyone is very nice, professional and down to earth. Derrick has also been exceptional getting our consolidation loan approved quickly. Give these guys a raise! 😀 We will always use this branch from now on.
